American Legion Unit 10 Auxiliary

Meetings are on the 2nd Monday of each month, starting at 7:00 pm.

Past President's Message
2016-2017 is looking to be a great year for Unit 10!  Bobbi Peebler is working with the Lebanon Veteran's Home this year so we will be supporting her efforts bring more "cheer" to our local veterans.  Sue Driver has accepted the District 3 President position for another year and is spending  a lot of time traveling around our District meeting with all of the Units.  Our sewing ladies have been struggling to keep up with the ever increasing demands of our veteran's homes.  They are working with some young ladies from Oak Creek Youth Corrections, which has been a big help.  They need YOU to step up and help with this projects.  3-4 women work all month long to make quilts, neck pillows, wheel chair covers, walker pouches, and much more.  They donate thousands of dollars of hand made items each year.  Please take a few hours of your time to help them.  They have a lot of fun working on these projects.  They meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month, at the Post, from about 9am until early afternoon.   They could also use donations of batting, if you are looking for a way to help but don't have the time to spend working with them.  Debbie Shoemake is not only helping out at the Club (when she is not flagging) but she has also accepted the position of Historian for the Unit and the Riders.  Kellie Christosen has continued to volunteer to keep our Post clean long after we laid of all of our volunteers.  Betty Barrett has been working so hard to keep up with all of the Points for Profit donations of receipts and contacts!  This has become a full time job for her along with Girls State!  Janice Danaher has been working with the sewing ladies, helps with all of the lunches, celebrations of life, etc.  Yvonne Fixel also steps up to help with these events and has been a big motivation to "get things moving!"  THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION!

The Holidays are quickly approaching.  We will be hosting the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for our veterans.   AMVETS 1776 from Monmouth has again offered to make a generous donation to both dinners to help us defray the costs.  These dinners are free to our veterans and their families.

We are looking for ways to serve our veterans and our community, but we need more active members to help with these projects.  A lot of our members have worked hard over the past 20-30 years and they are getting tired and worn out and just can't do as much as they would like to do.  If you know of someone that would be interested in joining our group, send them our way!  If your father, grandfather or spouse was eligible for membership in the American Legion or is currently a member, you are eligible to be a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  We may be a small group but we are dedicated to our veterans and their families!  Please join us.

If you are interested in being a part of these events or would like to make a donation, please let me know - Penny McCarthy, Unit 10 President  2015-2017
President's Message
2015-2016 at Albany Post 10 will be an emotional one to be sure.  With the potential sale of our new building, members of Unit 10 will continue our work to support our veterans and their families.  A building gives us an address and a point of contact but we, the dedicated members of Unit 10, will continue to strive to provide all of the support activities and events that we have done through the years.  We are hoping we can bring in new members with fresh ideas to help our elder members that have contributed so much to the success of our Unit.  We love our veterans!  Please join us.
